ʿIlm al-Sīrah is the knowledge of the life of the Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ,
comprising his lineage, his character, his prophethood, his migration, his
battles, and the events through which Allāh completed and perfected the
religion. Knowing the basics of the Sīrah is among the obligations of every Muslim, for it is through the life of the Prophet ﷺ that the meaning of the Qurʾān is
made manifest and the religion is given its living example. The articles
in this section are drawn from the classical works of Sīrah scholarship
within the Sunni tradition.
