Ulūm al-Ālah

ʿUlūm al-Ālah, the instrumental sciences, are the foundational disciplines
that equip the student of knowledge to engage with the primary sources of
the Islāmic sciences. They include the Arabic language in its dimensions of
grammar, morphology, rhetoric, and style. The scholars have affirmed that
learning Arabic is an obligation upon every Muslim to the degree necessary
for the correct performance of worship. For the student of knowledge,
mastery of these sciences is the gateway to the primary sources of the
religion and the condition for engaging with them directly. The articles
and resources in this section support the reader in building the linguistic
foundations necessary for deeper engagement with the Islāmic sciences.
